BMA Media Group tracks union’s website data, assists with content

In times of national crisis, such as the current Coronavirus pandemic, a number of unions in the construction trades are turning to LaborTools, powered by BMA Media Group, for assistance with member communication.

As many states are or begin to take measures such as issuing “stay at home” orders, banning the gathering of 10 or more people and implementing social distancing, communicating with your union membership becomes even more important. It only gets more complicated for the construction industry where every state has outlined a different level of construction work as essential.

For Local Unions who do not have dedicated social media accounts, a website may be the best option to provide timely communication with their members, especially when the news changes rapidly.

Sheet Metal Workers Local 24 is one Local Union that has already reached out and effectively shared messaging to their membership. Local 24’s jurisdiction includes four counties in Indiana, five in West Virginia, 30 in Kentucky and 49 in Ohio, creating even more challenges as the guidelines vary in each state.

BMA Media provides regular website edits to ease work for unions

BMA Media Group not only built Local 24’s website, but also provides a variety of ongoing website maintenance and content creation for improved site search optimization. This ongoing relationship made it easy to quickly add a COVID-19 page to the Local 24 site.

This new page contains a downloadable letter from the Local’s Business Manager and numerous links to additional information including Unemployment policies and various assistance from the International Union, including member assistance. Additional documents related to member’s healthcare plans was also added to the page.

In less than a week, the page has garnered more than 250 views. Just over 40 percent of views came from Facebook links posted on the personal accounts of Local 24 Business Representatives. The rest of the traffic came from Google searches (25 percent) and direct traffic, which is people typing in the URL directly into the web browser or who have bookmarked the site (33 percent).

In less than a week since the COVID-19 page was created, more than 1,000 viewers visited the SMW Local 24 website
