Videos Promote Diversity In Union Construction Trades

The Cleveland Building and Construction Trades Council is committed to creating a diversified workforce and turned to LaborTools to help them create a series of short videos.

Geared toward recruitment, the three videos were created to help attract minority candidates, including women, to careers in the trades.

CBCTC-Logo-NEW-Color-CMYKThe BMA team interviewed current and former minority journeymen and apprentices in a number of settings to discuss how the Cleveland Building Trades have become more diverse.

Our staff sorted through hours of interviews and put together a final product designed to help attract diverse candidates to the union construction field.

The videos are called Women in the Trades, Join the Trades and Diversity in the Trades.

Women in the Trades discusses gender stereotypes in the construction field and how women are overcoming them to have very successful careers in the Cleveland Building Trades.

The apprenticeship program is the main topic of the Join the Trades video. Viewers will learn about the concept of earn while you learn, which is where apprentices make a living wage and benefits while working on the jobsite and receiving classroom instruction. Those who complete the apprentice program become journeymen in their specific trade.

Diversity in the Trades focuses on the need to attract minorities to the construction workforce. Those interviewed discuss how progress has been made and hope these videos will help to diversify the trades even more to better represent the gender and racial make-up of northeastern Ohio.

All of the videos are used throughout the Cleveland Building and Construction Trades Council website and on all of the social media channels.
